AS BRITAIN SWELTERS, THE TANGO MAN IS BACK WITH SORBETS, NOT SLAPS

The iconic 90s advertising character and end line ‘You Know When You’ve Been Tango’d’ returns after 30 years to launch the first ever Tango sorbet, available in Creams cafes nationwide

He’s back! A new-look Tango Man returns to the streets to launch Creams Cafe’s limited-edition Tango Sorbet and Tango Orange & Lime Daiquiri – available in all 95 cafes

As Britain braces for yet another heatwave, the Tango Man is back – swapping slaps for scoops and stunts to launch the first ever Tango sorbet and its intense, bold taste on the UK high street.

A new-look Tango Man that’s fit for 2026 was spotted this morning cycling on a Creams cart through central London and then winding up the public with tricks on his rollerblades reminiscent of the original 1992 campaign.

Instead of slaps, he was seen rolling out an orange carpet for confused Brits to dance down and recreating classic commentary from the original ad through an orange megaphone – announcing to the public that the new sorbet has all the bite and buzz of the Tango drink.

The reappearance of the beloved advertising character comes as Creams Cafe’s limited-edition Tango range launches in all 95 cafes nationwide.

The industry-first Tango Sorbet (from £2.95 a scoop) is a bright, zesty orange sorbet topped with orange sherbet and crackling popping candy, designed to recreate the fizzy, tongue-tingling sensation of drinking an ice-cold Tango.

It’s joined by the Tango Orange & Lime Daiquiri (£5.75), blending Tango sorbet, mojito mix, crushed ice and fresh orange, finished with a zesty sherbet dusting.

The original Tango Man first burst onto British screens in 1992, in an ad that saw the orange figure charge across a field and slap an unsuspecting Tango drinker around the face – coining the line: “You know when you’ve been Tango’d.”

The campaign became one of the most talked-about in British advertising history – so notorious it was pulled from screens after schoolkids started recreating the slap in playgrounds across the country. The ad was re-edited, the catchphrase stuck, and the Tango Man secured his place as a 90s cultural icon.

More than 30 years on, the character returns to Britain’s streets – this time armed with a sorbet rather than a slap. A far tastier and less painful way to experience the infamous Tango sensation.

Everett Fieldgate, Chief Executive Officer at Creams Cafe, said: “At Creams, we’re always looking to create experiences, not just products. We want customers to feel surprised and immersed by what we offer.

“The Tango Sorbet does exactly that – from the bold citrus hit to the popping candy fizz that mimics the feeling of drinking a real Tango. It’s playful, nostalgic, interactive and unlike anything else currently on the UK high street.

“We know customers today are looking for more than just food – they’re looking for moments worth sharing and talking about. This collaboration brings together two bold brands to create something genuinely fun, memorable and first-of-its-kind.”

Spot the Tango Man to claim complmentary scoops in Creams Cafe and cool off during Britian’s third heat wave.
