Hotel chef Tony Fleming to star in Channel 4 series.

Tony Fleming, from the Michelin-starred Angler in South Place Hotel, is to appear in the television series Burger Bar to Gourmet Star.

In the final episode, due to air on Sunday, 2 August at 8pm on More4, Fleming is paired with a café cook from Bristol who will be trained as a professional chef in the Angler kitchen.

Channel 4 has taken some of the country’s best Michelin-starred chefs and set them the challenge of taking cooks from greasy spoons, burger bars, chicken shops and other iconic examples of British fast food with the hopes of making them world class.

Fleming commented: “It reminded my of my team and how gruelling it is working in a top kitchen. Our café cook’s skills progressed hugely, but sadly there is no such thing as a crash course in Michelin-starred cooking. However, with continued hard work and dedication, he could go far.”

Tony Fleming started his culinary career in London as a chef de partie for Marco Pierre White at the Criterion, before moving on to the three Michelin-starred Oak Room.

He worked for Richard Neat at the Oxo Tower and most recently as executive chef at One Aldwych before working with the South Place Hotel team to create and launch Angler.

In 2013, Angler, located in the City of London, was awarded its first Michelin star just a year after opening.

Angler continues to be a huge success, with a menu celebrating the best of Britain’s abundant variety of seafood, changing daily to reflect availability.
