LONDON’S OLDEST STEAK RESTAURANT INTRODUCES 100% CARBON NEUTRAL STEAK AND PLANT-BASED MENUS

Gaucho launches carbon neutral steaks alongside a brand-new vegan menu to highlight the restaurant group’s commitment to becoming more sustainable, aligning with its target of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030

Gaucho is pleased to announce that from today, Monday 10 January, its beef offering will include a ‘zero-carbon’ steak option, the Lomo Verde, at every restaurant. This spiral cut fillet tail, priced at £39.00 for 275g, is marinated in chimichurri sauce and is 100% carbon neutral, with all carbon emissions offset through reforestation and investment in renewable energy sources. When ordering the Lomo Verde, guests will also be given the option to ‘top with a tree’ for £2 which will fund the planting of a sapling tree in Peru, removing additional carbon emissions that the production of the steak has created.

Further to the carbon neutral steak offering in all restaurants, Gaucho and M will be launching and reopening restaurants this year that will offer entirely carbon neutral beef. Gaucho will launch in Glasgow and reopen in Charlotte Street, and M will open in Canary Wharf.

Aware of the high environmental impact of beef production, Gaucho is committed to working towards a more sustainable production system, aligning with its target to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030. The group is working closely with farmers and teachers to explore sustainable practices and mitigate climate impact, whilst also partnering with Not For Sale, a charity that combines carbon offsetting initiatives with upskilling individuals at risk of modern-day slavery. The partnerships dedicated to reforestation in the Peruvian Amazon jungle, provides safe economic opportunities for adults and increases the likelihood that children will stay in school and receive an education.

Martin Williams, CEO of Gaucho and M Restaurants, notes that “as part of our journey towards Net Zero and formation of the Sustainable Steak Movement, this January sees the launch of a Carbon Neutral Steak choice in all of our venues and the opening of three restaurants which exclusively offer Carbon Neutral Steaks in the coming weeks. Now you can enjoy the World’s Best Beef- Guilt free.”

Celebrating the increasing demand and necessity for vegan menu options, Gaucho has also launched a brand-new plant-based menu for Veganuary. Guests will have the chance to ditch the steak and try out Executive Chef Steve Allen’s impressive new vegan menu at Gaucho in Richmond, Sloane Avenue, Kensington and Hampstead throughout January.

Whilst staying true to Gaucho’s signature dishes including ceviche, empanadas and grills, the menu showcases the restaurant’s ‘Beyond Beef’ credentials, cooking vegetables respectfully with the Latin American influence that Gaucho is famous for. Dishes from the menu include Radish ceviche, avocado, corn, shallot, and tortilla (£7.50), Corn empanada, humita, basil and tomato sauce (£10) and Baked butternut squash, burnt onion, black bean and corn salsa (£10.50). Diners can bring their plant-based feast to a close with awarm Chocolate brownie with white chocolate ice cream (£7.50) or a classic Apple tarte tatin with vanilla ice-cream (£10.50).

Martin states: “in recent years we have created a broader menu, which includes more seafood, vegetarian and vegan options, which has helped broaden our appeal to a more diverse group of demographics, so to offer a special vegan menu throughout January in our more residential venues seems natural.”
