The Perfect Bar to Focus Your Sights On

A new basement bar, Camera, has opened up in the Newington area which is proving popular with locals and tourists alike. The bar opened at the end of March 2019, and comes from Trisha McCrae and the team behind Restaurant Sonder, along with bar consultant Phil Robins.

The new bar is located under the restaurant at 74-78 Clerk Street, and has its own private access door, fitted with its own doorbell which visitors ring for entry.

The bar itself comprises of a unique and quirky design, with a homely but minimal feel – a real family affair with owner Trisha’s husband Kevin responsible for the creation & building of the vast majority of the furniture and fittings – and incorporates a subtle nod to the couple’s previous exploits as the driving force of globetrotting pop-up restaurant team.

The drinks menu is split into four tightly curated sections – beer; with draught, bottles and cans available, house hiballs; an exploration of interesting spirits and mixers, wine ; a rotating list of 5 wines changed every 5 cases, and cocktails; simple, tasty and approachable drinks on the menu with a ‘market menu’ made up of works in progress and a catalogue of batched classics for those who fancy something a little stronger.

A big welcome and genuine, inclusive service is at the forefront of what the team intend each guest to experience at Camera along with their carefully selected music and constantly evolving drinks offering.

With 8 months under her belt at the increasingly popular Restaurant Sonder, Trisha hopes the opening of Camera will give locals another reason to stay closer to home and will bring more people to the south side of the city.

The bar will be open from 5pm-1am Wednesday – Sunday.
