Camden launches Can-for-Can swap to help tackle rising food poverty in the UK
There’s a fresh new beer in our Seasonal Hells range – Harvest Hells Lager. Hells has taken on an autumnal tone thanks to darker roasted speciality malts that give a rich, full flavour that turns its usual summer straw-yellow to the reddish brown of autumnal leaves.
This colder weather brings with it the bounty of everything grown in the warmer months. Fruit, vegetables and the grain and hops we need to make beer, but with 8.4 million people in the UK reportedly struggling to afford to eat,[1] and with one in 10 parents relying on local charities and foodbanks[2], we’ve teamed up with The Felix Project this autumn to support their mission in raising awareness of those experiencing food poverty in the UK.
From September 24th our Harvest Hells Van is on tour, heading to London, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool with the UK’s first ‘Can-for-Can’ swap initiative. We’re swapping cans of our Harvest Hells Lager for donations to local food banks in each city. Join us to swap a can of any tinned food, for a can of our Harvest Hells (on us!)
All tinned food donations will be greatly appreciated at your local Can-for-Can collection point:
- Tuesday 24th September – Camden Market, London (NW1 8AF): 12-3pm
- Wednesday 25th September – Media City, Manchester (M50 2EQ): 12-3pm
- Thursday 26th September – Victoria Leeds, Leeds (LS2 7AU): 12-3pm
- Friday 27th September – Royal Albert Dock Liverpool (L3 4AA): 12-3pm
We’re raising money for good with each beer from of our Seasonal Hells range. This autumn we’re donating 20p from every can of Harvest Hells Lager sold within the first month to our nominated charity, The Felix Project, and the important work they do to help tackle food poverty.
Mark Curtin, CEO of The Felix Project, says, “Food poverty in the UK is a growing problem, with many people struggling to afford fresh and healthy food for themselves and their families. We are delighted that Camden is not only helping to raise awareness of these crucial issues and the work we do at The Felix Project to tackle them, but also getting people involved in supporting the cause to help to reduce waste and eradicate food insecurity”
Jasper Cuppaidge, Founder of Camden Town Brewery, added, “We’re proud that each of our Seasonal Hells, released throughout the year, have been raising money for good. By donating 20p from each Harvest Hells can sale in this first month, and going on tour across the UK, we’re raising awareness of those experiencing food poverty, and your donations will go towards helping to put food on tables, supporting those in need.”
Available to buy from 9th September, our limited-edition Harvest Hells features a can designed by Bodil Jane, our Seasonal Design Collaborator, and is the Autumn instalment of our ‘Seasonal Hells’ batches for 2019. All beers in the seasonal range, which started with our summer lager and will be followed by beers inspired by winter and spring, are designed by the Dutch artist.
