Budweiser is driving the nation home for FREE this Christmas…

  • Free rides home up to £15 with Uber for all new and existing users from 4pm to midnight on Christmas Eve[1]
  • Christmas Eve initiative announced as part of Budweiser’s biggest ever UK responsible drinking campaign
  • Aims to put a stop to drink driving, and help people get home safely this Christmas

In a bid to put a stop to drink driving, Budweiser has today announced that it will be getting the nation home safely this Christmas Eve by partnering with Uber to offer everyone in the UK a free ride home – up to the value of £15 – from their festivities.

With this year’s Christmas Eve falling on a Saturday for the first time in five years, over a quarter of Brits (27%) claim that they will be taking advantage of the weekend and heading out to celebrate with friends and family before Christmas Day[2].

As a result, Budweiser and Uber have joined forces to create this unparalleled offer –    encouraging people to pre-plan their journeys and be smart about how they get home from their festivities on Christmas Eve.

The offer will be available on uberX between 4pm and midnight on Saturday 24th December 2016 to both new and existing Uber users, with rides up to a value of £15 – they can be redeemed by visiting Budweiser.co.uk and registering details. All new Uber users are also still entitled to a free ride up to £15[3] on Budweiser throughout the rest of December as announced earlier this month.

Budweiser has also partnered with the Department for Transport, in support of their THINK! Christmas drink drive campaign.

Road Safety Minister Andrew Jones said: “Drink driving destroys families and ruins lives, yet some reckless drivers continue to take the risk and get behind the wheel after drinking. We urge people who want to enjoy a festive night not to ruin it. Don’t drink and drive, use the bus, catch a train or book a car instead.”

Steph Okell, Marketing Manager, Budweiser UK, says: “We’ve run a lot of responsible drinking campaigns in the past, but for 2016 we wanted to take our commitments to the next level with an initiative of epic proportions that would really have an impact. We want to spark as many conversations as possible and if we can deter people from getting behind the wheel after drinking this Christmas, we’ll consider the campaign a success.”

Jo Bertram, Regional General Manager of Uber in the UK, said: ““We are excited to be partnering with Budweiser to get the UK home safely this Christmas Eve. Uber allows you to plan ahead and get a safe and affordable ride at the tap of a button – this initiative is a huge step towards addressing drink driving in the UK, and we are proud to be part of it.”

Earlier this month, Budweiser kicked off its Don’t Drink & Drive Campaign with the UK debut of its infamous Helen Mirren advert. The unorthodox ad, which featured in the Super Bowl this year, delivers a straight-talking, uncensored and powerful responsible drinking message to UK viewers in a way that only Helen Mirren could – making no excuses for drink drivers. The launch was supported with free Uber rides for all new users throughout December2.
