Ebury Press acquires wine guide from ‘the Nigella of wine’, Hannah Crosbie

Ebury Press is delighted to announce the acquisition of Corker, an incisive yet unserious guide to drinking wine from wine writer and Sunday Brunch regular, Hannah Crosbie. World All Language rights were acquired by Commissioning Editor Celia Palazzo from Siobhan Quinn, co-founder of creative and talent agency, Hot Sauce.

Corker is a wine guide with a difference – instead of telling us which wines to drink with certain dishes, Hannah tells us which wine to pair with life’s important (and unimportant) events. What bottle do you buy the first time you meet the in-laws? What do you order on a date that’s going well? If it’s not going well? What should you drink on a plane? Whatever the occasion, even if it’s not going well, Hannah will make sure that you’re at least drinking the right wine.

Understanding that how and what we drink is ultimately rooted in occasion, Hannah pairs sage advice with wry humour, arming readers with the confidence to navigate any wine list, bottle shop or supermarket aisle.

This is a guide for wine novices staring nonplussed at supermarket shelf, as well as wine lovers who might already know their Chablis from their Chenin, but still need some inspiration when picking the best bottle for their budget and the occasion. With a glossary of key terms as well as seasonal recommendations – from the first summer barbecue through to the festive period – Corker is the accessible go-to guide for a new generation of wine drinkers.

Hannah Crosbie said: ‘I wish a book like this had existed when I was first getting into wine. I craved a wine book that didn’t take itself too seriously, that spoke about wine in a way that I recognized and related to. Corker exists to bridge the gap between the vast world of wine and everyday drinking, arming a new wave of wine lovers with the tools to find the wines they want to drink.’

Celia Palazzo said: ‘Hannah is a one-in-a-million talent. The way she writes about wine and how we drink it is astute, funny and deeply relatable. We’re thrilled to be publishing her first book at Ebury – Corker is going to be the definitive new wine guide for connoisseurs and budding enthusiasts alike.’
