The programme is divided into a number of departmental phases, with the time spent in each flexible according to previous experience to offer trainees the chance to focus on areas they wish to specialise in. The core modules include the kitchens, restaurants, bars, lounge, conference & banqueting, events sales, reception, concierge, nights, reservations, housekeeping, laundry, accounts and duty management ensure trainees receive the breadth of training and experience they need.

A passion for the hospitality industry is the most important criteria Elite is looking for in applicants to the programme, demonstrated by some industry experience. People of all ages can apply, including students studying hospitality and catering at college or university and existing Elite employees looking to take the next step in their careers.

Graeme Bateman, Managing Director of the Elite Hotel Group said: “Encouraging training and development among staff is one of Elite’s core values and the Trainee Management Programme has been designed to give enthusiastic hospitality individuals a chance to develop their skills, learn from senior managers and forge a successful career for themselves within the Elite Hotel Group. We are passionate about internal progression and it is our belief that developing new managers from within empowers them to increase their contribution to our success, while enabling them to achieve their long-term career goals.”

The Elite Management Trainee Programme recruits up to six new trainees each year and, on successful completion of the programme, the trainees will be offered interviews with the General Managers of one or more of the Elite Hotels for entry level management positions. The scheme has seen 16 trainees take part so far, and all graduates were offered permanent positions with Elite on completion.
