The Rothschild Collection will exhibit at this year’s London Wine Fair – the first time in the show’s 37-year history. UK distributor, Waddesdon Wine, will showcase wines from each arm of the Rothschild winemaking family: Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite); Baron Philippe de Rothschild (Mouton); and Château Clarke (Baron Edmond de Rothschild); as well as Champagne Barons de Rothschild.
Waddesdon Wine will open a bottle of the critically-acclaimed 2010 Château Lafite on the Tuesday. The tasting will be by invitation only, although the trade can apply for one of the 10 places via [email protected]. The wine currently retails at circa £750 per bottle.
The stand will feature wines from across the portfolio, which incorporates domaines from: Languedoc; Bordeaux; Chile; Argentina; South Africa and New Zealand, covering a broad hierarchy of price points. In addition to Mouton Cadet, the world’s largest selling AC Bordeaux, highlights will include: Lafite Légende; a collection of wines which offer the Lafite Bordeaux experience at more accessible price points (£12 to £28); Los Vascos, DBR Lafite’s Colchagua Valley-based winey; Bodegas Caro, the Mendoza based collaboration between DBR Lafite and the Catena family; and Rimapere, a joint venture between Craggy Range’s Peabody family and Baron Edmond de Rothschild.
As well as representation from the award-winning winemaking teams, Champagne Barons de Rothschild’s Frédéric Mairesse, will run a tasting across the Champagne Barons de Rothschild range; from Brut NV through Blanc de Blancs, rosé to 2006 vintage (their first vintage release). More details on Rothschild masterclasses will be announced in the coming weeks.
Commenting on the decision to exhibit, National Sales Director, Helen Miller, said: “Waddesdon Wine is delighted to be part of the London Wine Fair for the first time. The focus on the high end on-trade and independent retailers at The Fair, very much aligns with our strategy for these increasingly important sectors. We look forward to presenting the many award winning wines from the Rothschild stables, all offering an unparalleled assurance of quality across a number of price points.”
