Boschendal launches food-friendly wines for the on-trade

South African winemaker Boschendal has released three wines that focus on the food occasion, within its Sommelier Selection range.

The South African Sommeliers Association and Boschendal’s executive chef at The Werf restaurant on its estate in the Franschhoek Valley, Christiaan Campbell, worked closely together to create these wines in light of the 330th anniversary of the winery.

South Africa’s signature Pinotage varietal will be a first for the winery, with also a Chenin Blanc and a Sauvignon Blanc in the range. The wines have been crafted to ’emphasise texture and drinkability’ and both the flavours and aromas aim to compliment food.

The Chenin Blanc is recommended with lightly grilled or fried fish, egg-based dishes, and mild cheeses, while the Sauvignon Blanc will match shellfish, goats cheese salads, charcuterie and sushi. As for the Pinotage, Boschendal suggests smoked duck, pork belly or barbecue food.
