IHG’s Hotel Indigo opens in York

Hotel Indigo, the boutique brand from InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), has opened its first property in York.

Located on Walmgate – York’s famous food and chocolate destination – the 101-room hotel will be operated by Sojourn Hotels and has been designed to take influence from York’s chocolate heritage including Rowntrees.

Mike Sweeting, hotel manager, said: “The neighbourhood of Walmgate provides the perfect base for exploring York’s rich cultural heritage. With our chocolate inspired décor and emphasis on real local flavours we are ready to give guests an authentic Yorkshire welcome.”

The hotel has partnered with the Yorkshire Meatball Co, one of the Uk’s only specialty meatball restaurants, which will serve guests meat, fish, vegetarian and sweet balls along with Yorkshire craft beers.

Tom Rowntree, IHG’s vice president for Hotel Indigo, Europe, said: “We’re enormously proud to be opening our first Hotel Indigo property in York. Hotel Indigo provides a refreshingly local experience for guests through stylish design, locations in unique and culturally-rich neighbourhoods, topped off with intimate, personalised service.”

Hotel Indigo York is the brand’s 19th property in Europe and joins nine other IHG hotels in York.
