Dublin City Break Guide

Are you considering a city break to Dublin? Well, if you are, you’re in for a treat!

Dublin is an amazing city with a vibrant culture and friendly locals. Famous for its literature and music, Dublin gives its visitors an authentic taste of the Irish culture and heritage that everyone loves.

With so much to do and see, it can be difficult to pack it all in – this quick guide gives you a rough 3-day itinerary that you can follow for your weekend away to the Irish capital.

Day 1

Once you arrive, you’ll want to check in to your Dublin hotel to drop your bags off and have a quick freshen-up if you’ve travelled far.

Now you’re ready to seize the day, let’s get stuck into some sightseeing. First up on the agenda is Trinity College – home to the Book of Kells and the Long Room Library, it’s one of Dublin’s most iconic attractions. Steeped in history, you should take your time enjoying the exhibitions, exploring the library, and strolling around the beautiful university grounds.

To end your first day, head to the Temple Bar district and embrace its lively atmosphere. Grab a drink, enjoy the craic and truly experience the fun of Irish pubs. Make sure to visit the famous Temple Bar Pub too, a legendary Dublin pub serving over 350 types of whiskey!

Day 2

Spend a leisurely morning shopping on Grafton Street. Then it’s time to visit Dublin Castle and then stop by St Stephen’s Green for a walk or picnic if you have time.

Next, head to Guinness Storehouse; explore the museum and enjoy a nice cold pint in the Gravity Bar with panoramic views of Dublin. Experience the novelty of getting a selfie printed on your Guinness pint too.

In the evening, why not visit the Brazen Head, the oldest pub in Ireland, for some delicious grub?

Day 3

For your final day in Dublin, you can either take the DART train to Howth or simply spend more time exploring the beautiful city.

Howth is a picturesque fishing village around 30 minutes away from Dublin via train. It’s very easily accessible with DART trains running roughly every 20 minutes. The Howth Cliff Path is the star attraction here, offering beautiful views of the coastline. You can opt for a 1.5-hour or 3-hour hike, depending on how much time you have.

If you decide to stay in the city centre, there’s still plenty more to see, including the Little Museum of Dublin and IMMA, the Irish Museum of Modern Art. If it’s a nice day, visit Phoenix Park or enjoy souvenir shopping on Drury Street to pick up a holiday keepsake.
