Huddersfield, UK – Cedar Court Hotel Huddersfield and Bradley Park Golf Club have launched a community-driven fundraising initiative to install a life-saving defibrillator at the hotel. The campaign is inspired by Martin Folan, who suffered a cardiac arrest while attending an event with Bradley Park Golf Club at the hotel in October 2024. Thanks to the quick actions of a bystander who performed CPR, Martin survived, but not everyone is as fortunate.

Now, Martin, alongside Cedar Court Hotels and Bradley Park Golf Club, is determined to ensure that no one in the future faces the same situation at the hotel or within the local community without immediate access to a defibrillator.

Why This Fundraiser Matters

Cardiac arrest can strike anyone, anywhere, at any time. In the UK, there are around 60,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests each year, and tragically, survival rates remain low. However, defibrillators can increase the chances of survival by up to 70% if used within the first few minutes.

Currently, many public spaces lack access to these vital devices. By installing a defibrillator at Cedar Court Hotel Huddersfield, the initiative will provide a crucial resource not just for hotel guests but for the entire local community, ensuring that life-saving support is available in those critical moments.

Community Support and Fundraising Efforts

The fundraising drive will bring together local businesses, community members, and hospitality guests to raise the necessary funds for the defibrillator. Plans include:

  • A dedicated GoFundMe page where supporters can donate directly.
    • A series of fundraising events to be announced in the coming weeks, hosted at both Cedar Court Hotel Huddersfield and Bradley Park Golf Club.
    • Local business sponsorships and community involvement opportunities to help maximise the impact of the campaign.

Speaking about the initiative, Shaun Guest, Hotel Manager at Cedar Court Hotel Huddersfield, said:

“Martin’s story is a powerful reminder of how crucial quick intervention is in medical emergencies. As a hotel that welcomes thousands of guests each year, we want to ensure that if the unthinkable happens again, we are equipped to help. This isn’t just for our guests – it’s for our local community too. The more we raise, the better prepared we can be.”

Richard Kaye speaking on behalf of the Golf Club also highlighted the importance of community support:

“A defibrillator can mean the difference between life and death. At Bradley Park Golf Club, we understand how vital these devices are, and we’re proud to be backing this campaign. We’re calling on our members, local businesses, and the community to help us make this happen.”

For Martin Folan, this initiative is deeply personal:

“I was incredibly lucky. If it weren’t for the people around me acting so fast, I probably wouldn’t be here today. That’s why I want to make sure that if this happens to someone else, they have the best possible chance of survival. This defibrillator will save lives – and I’m asking everyone to support this cause.”
