Earlier this year, Sommet Education, a world leader in hospitality, luxury, and gastronomic education and training, announced the launch of its training solutions for businesses.
Companies are now leveraging a suite of bespoke training and leadership development solutions powered by the world’s elite hospitality institutions – Glion Institute of Higher Education, Les Roches, École Ducasse, Indian School of Hospitality, and Invictus Education – to unlock the potential of their in-house talents.

In a Q&A interview, we caught up with Benoît-Etienne Domenget, CEO of Sommet Education, to learn more about Sommet Education Business Solutions, and how it is exploring deeper and stronger engagement in UK hospitality, and beyond, with custom-based training.

Why was the time right to bring Sommet Education Business Solutions to market?
“This professional development offer has been part of our DNA for some time. It is the result of a growing demand from companies focusing on human capital that we have now chosen to structure as a key pillar of our activity, leveraging the unparalleled expertise from our network of highly ranked academic institutions. Leveraging our world-class educational institutions to enhance corporate talent development models is a strategic evolution. By integrating foundational with lifelong learning, we provide a holistic solution that empowers businesses and their teams to thrive in an ever-evolving industry landscape. It will also benefit government organisations specialising in hospitality and tourism. In the UK, we have dedicated London-based expertise at Glion Institute of Higher Education.”
The launch press release speaks about the program prioritising the customisation of its services. What do companies need to customise?
“Businesses seek tailored training programs that address specific skills, leadership development, and digital transformation. They also require flexible learning formats, including online, in-person, on-company site, and hands-on experiences, to suit their teams’ schedules. Regional and cultural adaptations are essential for companies operating in diverse markets, ensuring relevance and effectiveness. Organisations look for education solutions that align with their internal career development strategies, helping them retain and grow top talent. Our programs address talent shortages, enhance service innovation, and equip leaders with the skills to thrive in an evolving global landscape.”
What defines a top or mid-level executive in the hospitality industry in today’s context, and what new knowledge and skills do they need to have?
“A top or mid-level executive in the hospitality industry is defined by their leadership role in driving strategy, managing operations and ensuring guest satisfaction. They must possess strong business acumen, financial management, and people leadership skills. New knowledge areas include digital transformation, sustainability practices, and data-driven decision-making. Skills in crisis management, adaptability, emotional and cultural intelligence are also key. We have created several talent development solutions.”
Why do you think continuous learning is so important in the hospitality industry?
“Continuous learning is key in the hospitality industry because it is a very dynamic environment trends, technology, and guest expectations constantly evolve. Staying updated with innovations like AI, sustainability practices, and digital marketing enhances service quality and competitiveness. We have been observing rapid industry shifts, such as the rise of contactless services and personalised guest experiences. 80% of travellers demand highly customised experiences, but only 33% of businesses are prepared (McKinsey, 2023). At the same time, 67% of hotels report a skills gap in AI, automation, and digital systems (EY, 2023). Ultimately those who adapt quickly maintain a competitive edge and ensure long-term success.”
On sustainability and environmental care, what specific aspects of this are addressed in Sommet Education’s Business Solutions?
“We have a dedicated talent development solution on Sustainable Tourism and Destination Management. In our institutions, for example Les Roches and Glion who are recognised as two of the world’s leading institutions in hospitality and leisure management in the QS World University Rankings 2025, embed sustainability in their curriculums by integrating eco-conscious principles into hospitality management education. Les Roches offers courses on sustainable hospitality, ESG strategies, and circular economy models, with hands-on projects on reducing carbon footprints. Glion emphasises green hotel operations, sustainable finance, and CSR through core courses and industry collaborations. Both provide real-world learning experiences, including internships with eco-friendly brands. They also host sustainability-focused workshops and research projects. This prepares future hospitality leaders to drive positive environmental and social impact.”
One of the first partners is Mandarin Oriental. What is the focus of your work together?
“That is correct. Mandarin Oriental CEO Laurent Kleitman, the award-winning owner and operator of some of the world’s most luxurious hotels, resorts and residence has led the way by signing a global alliance with Sommet Education focusing on three core objectives: Enriching the school’s student learning experience, creating opportunities for high-potential individuals from underserved communities, and empowering colleague development with bespoke training initiatives that enhance both vocational and managerial skills. Announcing the partnership, he said: ‘The next generation of talent is a vital force in shaping the future of luxury hospitality. They bring fresh perspectives, set new benchmarks and contribute to the continued evolution of Mandarin Oriental’s legendary service. They add new depth to the story of our brand. Our collaboration with Sommet Education is dedicated to empowering future hospitality leaders through targeted education, immersive training and a close partnership with the schools under Sommet’s Education umbrella’.”
What is your closing message to other organisations interested in getting involved?
“We want to hear from you!
