90-year legacy hotel marks new progression phase with pinnacle senior hire
The Cumberland, the landmark hotel that has been entertaining guests at its distinguished address for over 90 years, has appointed Pedro Da Silva as General Manager. Pedro succeeds Julie Hammond who was General Manager from November 2022.
Pedro joins The Cumberland from a prior role as General Manager of The Royal Horseguards and One Whitehall Place, a stunning 5-star Grade II* listed hotel in London encompassed by two iconic buildings. He has strong ambitions to elevate The Cumberland’s reputation as an iconic lifestyle hotel and multi-faceted business steeped in cultural and musical legacy.
Da Silva aims to breathe new life throughout the 900 bedrooms, as well as the plethora of popular food and beverage outlets including SOUND, a seamless blend of live music, sports and dining. Simultaneously he will draw attention to the standout meeting and event spaces – including the 300-capacity ‘The Arena’, and 18 other meeting rooms. Pedro is committed to providing all guests—tourists and locals alike, both returning and new—with fresh reasons to visit the hotel.
Prior to his roles within the Clermont Hotel Group – including The Royal Horseguards and Clermont Charing Cross London – Pedro held General Manager roles across a range of popular London hotels within RBH Hospitality Management. From 2003 – 2006, Pedro honed his international experience with commercial roles with Marriott in the USA as well as operational leadership roles in his homeland South Africa.

The Cumberland marks an important next step in his career journey, where Pedro will aim to apply his international knowledge of hospitality to appeal to the hotel’s diverse and majority international market. An award-winning General Manager, in 2024 Pedro was awarded General Manager of the Year in The Clermont Hotel Group annual awards ceremony. His extensive experience with both independent and large-brand hotels sets him apart, bringing a unique approach to his leadership style.
