Yeo Explore! winners Melbourne Primary School, York enjoy the great outdoors with Yeo Valley Organic, as part of the dedicated school campaign.
The pupils will benefit from a term’s supply of Yeo Valley Organic yogurt, which will be shared with partner schools in the local trust.
As part of Yeo Explore! – the school campaign dedicated to encouraging children to eat well – Yeo Valley Organic took pupils from Melbourne Primary School to the Woodland Adventure Company for a day of fun. This provided them with the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature, explore the outdoors and learn outside the classroom.
Following a flood of entries from the education community to win the Yeo Explore! outdoorsy prize, Melbourne Primary School’s entry struck a chord, as the pupils were encouraged to participate in sharing what winning the prize would mean to them, and their thoughts and ideas shone through.
The lucky pupils enjoyed a host of outdoor activities including den building, bow and arrow carving – with the opportunity to test their tools out – a healthy snack break with Yeo Valley Organic yogurts, and finished with roasting marshmallows around a log fire.
Speaking about the day, Vicky Burdett, Headteacher at Melbourne Primary School shared:
“You can see from the looks on their faces just how much fun they’ve had. The children have been able to play freely in nature and it’s brought out their sense of adventure – they’ve really enjoyed being part of the outdoors. It’s so rewarding to be a part of Yeo Explore! and to be able to give our pupils the opportunity to have this experience. It’s something that the children can share together and bond over. We try to encourage outdoor learning wherever we can because we can really see the benefits – the smiles on their faces say it all!”
Hannah Hopkin, Teacher at Melbourne Primary School adds:
“Today has taught us that perhaps as a teacher, we want to intervene and support too soon, and just watching them overcome challenges they’ve faced today has inspired me to take a step back and let them figure things out for themselves. In doing so, they’ve come together to find solutions – both working as a team, whilst gaining independence from us.”
Melbourne Primary School join Barley Close Community Primary School, Bristol as the second winner of Yeo Explore! – a campaign dedicated to supporting schools and local communities with a well-rounded learning experience that champions nature and the great outdoors.
Talking about the day, Craig Dillon, Head of Sales for Wholesale and Foodservice at Yeo Valley, said:
“It’s been such a rewarding day seeing the children explore nature and discover all the fun activities that were planned with the Woodland Adventure Company. They were able to learn in new ways and try different things, which is what Yeo Explore! is all about – it’s the opportunity to get stuck in and have fun! The campaign was launched to support schools and it’s been so valuable to see it all come together.”
