THE LANDMARK LONDON’S PASTRY TEAM WIN BAKE OFF: THE PROFESSIONALS 2023

TALENTED HEAD PASTRY CHEF MAURO DI LIETO, ALONGSIDE HIS PASTRY SOUS CHEF DANIEL SCHEVENELS, ARE CROWNED WINNERS OF NATIONALLY RECOGNISED TV SHOW:

The Landmark London’s Head Pastry Chef, Mauro Di Lieto and Pastry Sous Chef, Daniel Schevenels, have been crowned winners of Channel 4’s Bake Off: The Professionals 2023.

Mauro has worked as Head Pastry Chef for over four years at The Landmark London, and has worked alongside Pastry Sous Chef, Daniel, since September 2021. Together they hold upwards of 60 years’ experience in pastry curation and design. Their combined experience and passion have placed them the esteemed winners of one of the UK’s most-loved professional baking competitions.

The winners impressed judges, Benoit Blin and Cherish Finden, in the final with their creations, which included a Chocolate and salted caramel Swiss roll with banana cremaux and peanut butter. The dessert had rave reviews, with Cherish stating, “in this dessert, there is love in every detail.” The pairing was simple and perfectly balanced, boasting a soft and moist sponge with complementary flavours.

Following the win, Mauro, alongside Daniel, has designed a new Afternoon Tea inspired by the winning desserts and pastries they created on the show. Afternoon Tea will be served in the Winter Garden Restaurant under the iconic and soaring eight-storey-high glass atrium that has been at the centre of the hotel since its opening.

Speaking on his win, Mauro Di Lieto, Head Pastry Chef at The Landmark London, said: “Being a part of Bake Off: The Professionals was an unforgettable and life-changing experience. Not only was the competition tough and talent abundant, but it really challenged our creativity and technical abilities. We’ve come back to The Landmark London inspired and brimming with ideas, starting with our new Afternoon Tea which is a must-try experience when visiting London.”

CEO of The Lancaster Landmark Hotel Company and General Manager of The Landmark London, Fergus Stewart, adds: “Mauro and Daniel have been an asset to our hotel for many years. Not only have they crafted our renowned High Palms High Tea, known across the country, but they serve up to 900 guests per day with no compromise on quality. I’m thrilled to see their talents recognised and accredited on the show when competing against such tough competition, and I look forward to the creations they have planned for the hotel.”

The Landmark London is situated in Marylebone and has, since its debut 120 years ago, remained an icon of quintessential and elegant London charm. As one of the oldest railway hotels in London, the hotel was born in the romantic era of train travel, combining the opulence, grandeur and timeless service and design of those times with contemporary flair and five-star amenities – the perfect place for a contemporary, yet traditional afternoon tea.
