Winning The NORNS Special Awards this year for our environmental efforts gives us the motivation to go even further to pave the green road ahead to provide responsible quality tourism.”
On the 1st October 2022 Delphina hotels & resorts attended the World Travel Awards 2022 in Mallorca, attended by global hospitality giants, and won five major awards including “Europe’s Leading Green Independent Hotel Group 2022” for the first time. “Sardinia’s unique nature is our primary resource and has always been at the centre of our projects. – said Elena Muntoni – Winning for four consecutive years the title of Europe’s Leading Green Resort and being awarded as Europe’s Leading Green Independent Hotel Group 2022 is proof that we are on the right track. It is a sign of how it is possible to do business whilst respecting and enhancing the environment. From the very beginning, we have ensured that every single building fits harmoniously into the surrounding landscape, is close to nature and respects the traditions of this land. We would like to thank all those who have rewarded our actions and our green philosophy, which from the very beginning has been based on sustainability, love for nature and providing a local and family touch that we continuously try to convey”.
The World Travel Awards™ was established in 1993 and serves to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry. Today the World Travel Awards™ brand is recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of industry excellence.
Sardinia is a popular destination for British holidaymakers looking to escape to the white sandy beaches and shimmering waters for wellness and relaxation, all just a two hour flight away. Delphina hotels & resorts offers a wide range of SPA, wellness, leisure and sports facilities as well as boat excursions to enjoy the charming Italian island.
To enhance their commitment to eco-sustainable practices and the environment, Delphina introduced and registered their own We Are Green® brand several years ago. As the first Italian hotel chain to use 100% green energy, coming exclusively from renewable sources, in all hotels, resorts and headquarters. In the last five years Delphina has saved 16,918 tons of CO2, the equivalent of what 119,612 trees would absorb in one year.
Sustainable practices include limiting the use of plastic in favour of biodegradable materials for lunch boxes, straws, cutlery, plates and glasses, and replacing plastic bottles in the hotels with glass, tetrapak or cans. Staff and collaborators received a free reusable water bottle to refill in specially installed fountains which resulted in saving 68,700 plastic bottles per year.
Delphina uses Ecolabel products for ordinary cleaning, and the courtesy line of SPA products are eco-bio certified and paraben free. The hotels and resorts use sustainable mobility with electric vehicles which are recharged on-site and used to transport guests. Vegetable-based inks are used for printing catalogues with paper and covers all in certified ecological cellulose making it entirely recyclable. To create an authentic and sustainable stay for guests, Sardinian arts, crafts, entertainment, manufacturers and services are all sourced locally. Food and wine are also preferably sourced locally through the “Genuine Local Food Oriented®” project, a Delphina quality brand focussing on a healthy, high quality cuisine based on genuine ingredients that respect seasonality, ideally at 0 km.
One of Delphina’s hotels in Badesi, Resort & SPA Le Dune, houses a 5-hectare vegetable garden with a range of aromatic herbs and fruits trees for guests to enjoy along with providing an educational purpose for children. This also acts as a source of supply for zero km ingredients across all resorts.
Delphina is also a Corporate Golden Donor in support of the FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano in the protection of the Italian cultural and naturalistic heritage.
Delphina is on a continued mission to offer authentic Mediterranean hospitality in unique places for their twelve 5*, 4* Superior and 4* hotels, exclusive residences, 6 SPAs and prestigious villas in Northern Sardinia. All properties overlook the sea between the Costa Smeralda, the Archipelago of La Maddalena and the Gulf of Asinara, in the towns of Cannigione, Palau, Santa Teresa Gallura, Isola Rossa and Badesi.
