For the twentieth edition of Northern Restaurant & Bar, the North’s hospitality exhibition which takes place at Manchester Central in two weeks, the organisers are urging the region’s hospitality professionals past and present to share memories, menus and mementos from the last twenty years via the social media hashtag #NRBStories.
Northern Restaurant & Bar, one of the UK’s largest hospitality exhibitions, celebrates its twentieth birthday at Manchester Central on 17-18 March 2020. As part of its celebrations, the organisers are urging hospitality industry professionals from the region’s restaurants, bars, pubs and hotels to share their memories, menus and mementos from the last twenty years.
From photographs of long disbanded kitchen brigades, shots of prized awards on mantelpieces and framed cuttings of glowing reviews, to favourite menus, with dishes of the time and historical prices, or even items kept from particular venues – a chef’s knife, an embarrassing uniform, or even an ashtray perhaps.
CEO Thom Hetherington said “NRB is always looking to the future, as the industry is very forward-looking and trend driven, but having hit such a milestone it seemed a missed opportunity not to allow the industry some fond nostalgia. It’s useful to see how far we’ve come.”
As part of the #NRBStories campaign, some of the industry’s most respected operators gathered for a roundtable discussion to talk about the past, present and future of hospitality. Hosted by Matt White, the guests were:
- Thom Hetherington, Northern Restaurant & Bar
- Joycelyn Neve, Seafood Pub Company
- Adam Reid, Adam Reid at The French
- Martin Wolstencroft, Arc Inspirations
- Marko Husak & Mayur Patel, Bundobust
Six episodes have been created and each one has a different flavour, from guests’ first jobs and early influences to what they see the future of hospitality looking like. Each guest was also asked to bring along something which meant something to them from their time in the industry. Watch now.
How You Can Get Involved
There are tens of thousands of hospitality professionals across the North of England, and every one of them has the opportunity to share their own memories. You can share your memories using the #NRBStories hashtag. So get in the loft to dig out that old menu which was way ahead of its time, dust off your catering college award, or find that membership card to the club everyone wanted to get into and share it on Twitter or Instagram. Share them using #NRBStories and the best ones will be shared by Northern Restaurant & Bar’s social media accounts and added to the website to create a collection of iconic and interesting items.
2020 is the twentieth edition of Northern Restaurant & Bar, taking place 17-18 March 2020 at Manchester Central. NRB provides an opportunity for leading operators, suppliers and industry figures to meet, speak and do business. From Liverpool to Leeds, the North East to the North West and the Lake District to the Peak District, NRB brings the cream of the hospitality industry to Manchester.
