After a year travelling and tasting some of the world’s most imaginative desserts, the team behind Hans & Gretel has served their favourites under one roof in the reimagined surroundings of London’s busy North Yard in Camden Market.

Linda Lim, Co-Founder of Hans & Gretel, UK said: “The Valentine’s Day exclusive dessert is utterly magical. What better way to propose to someone with a real sweet tooth. Being a leap year, we could see a woman come in to purchase the ice cream for their special someone, that would be really special.”

Hans & Gretel pride themselves on their organically grown products which are all made in-house. Signature serves include:

  • Bubble Waffle– a secret homemade waffle recipe that only a handful of people know, all under strict NDA’s, reminiscent of the secrecy surrounding Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Oompa Loopa’s. The waffle is lighter and fluffier than anything you’ve ever tried.
  • Chimney Cakes– a Hungarian spun pastry, spun and roasted on a spit to create a crispy buttery treat with a caramelised crust, dusted with sugar and cinnamon.
  • Gelato– over 10 unique gelato flavours, including Maccha, Smurf (bubble gum flavoured) and the most mouth watering, dairy free sorbets in London.

Both Bubble Waffle and Chimney Cakes can have the brands delicious and colourful gelato added on top of the already delicious treats.

There is also an extensive selection of pick n mix world candies and a candy floss station for freshly spun cotton candy.

Every aspect of Hans & Gretel has been designed to bring a touch of theatre to Camden Market’s North Yard. When entering the store customers will feel like they have been transported into a theatrical candy land.

The magical interior has been designed to bring the inner child out in customers and guests. The team has hung giant lollipops and marshmallows from the ceiling, creating an emporium of magic. A central enchanted tree decked in fairy lights brings the entire store to life. In every corner, people are already lining the store to take photos and capture that all important Instagram moment.

The diverse and eclectic background of Camden Market provides the perfect setting for Hans & Gretel’s first UK opening. As the Market embraces its 45th anniversary, it’s an exciting time to join, and be involved in its visions for the future.

Linda Lim, Co-Founder of Hans & Gretel, UK said: “The intent from the very beginning was not to focus only on the product and become another candy store but instead create a positive space full of nostalgia, theatre and magic!

“This idea strikes a chord at a personal level because I strongly believe that positive energy and the ability to step back from the race of everyday life is a key ingredient for a good quality of life. I take pride in the space we have managed to create, for it allows everyone to immerse in their childhood and put a smile on their face. We want to be part of people’s joy and celebratory moments.

“This is not to say of course that we don’t put a lot of emphasis on the products. Quality and variety are central in the ethos of our brand, and our intent here is to bring together all these candies and sweets that one can desire in one place. The colour and taste of our pick and mix, the theatre of the candy floss, the smell of chimney cakes, the artisan gelato and waffles, which are made organically in the store bring back all these good memories and creating new ones!

Linda added: “The first priority since we decided to launch Hans & Gretel in the UK with our partners, was to create a flagship store in London that will form the base for further expansion across the UK. I instantly fell in love with a listed warehouse inside the North Yard of the Camden Market, which created great chemistry with our design, and is also located in one of the most visited destinations in London. We feel we’re bringing a touch of magic to the rejuvenation of the Market’s existing offering, and helping to establish the North Yard as a family friendly foodie destination and look forward to welcoming an audience of visitors of all ages from across the world.”

“The next steps are to launch our brand in high profile pop up events and also expand to other central locations in London. We will also be looking into franchise opportunities nationwide. Our vision is to expand the UK franchise in the next five years and turn Hans and Gretel into a respected brand.
