Foodism’s Japan Week, sponsored by JFOODO, is a city-wide celebration of the thriving Japanese food and drink scene in London, taking place from Monday 23rd September to Thursday 3rd October 2019.
Restaurants and bars across London are taking part from Sexy Fish to Sushi Samba, ROKA and Aqua Kyoto through to Wagamama and Sushi Daily. Japan Week is not just for Japanese inspired venues either with Ametsa, Tramp, Gingerline and more also taking part that week with celebrating the best sake food pairings with sake and Japanese fusion dishes.
With just under three weeks to go, Foodism reveal some of the ways to enjoy Japan Week including a Lunch Club at Sexy Fish, a sake paired menu at Ametsa, a Japanese tasting special at M Restaurants and a premium sake tasting hosted by experts at Hedonism Wines on World Sake Day.
Friday 27th September – Sexy Fish Lunch Club (13.00 – 15.00)
Dine with sake expert Raul Diaz in a private dining room at Sexy Fish for its exclusive Japanese-influenced Lunch Club. Guests will enjoy Sexy Fish’s exclusive Japan Week dishes including Pomegranate & Cashew Salad and Salmon Teriyaki with Yuzu Hollandaise, alongside a two-hour sake tutorial guided by Raul. With only 20 places, this exclusive event is the perfect event to be immersed in the world of sake.

Sunday 29th September – Hedonism x Foodism present World Sake Day with Honami Matsumoto from House of Sake (13.30 – 17.00)
Guided by the experts at Hedonism Wines and sake icon Honami Matsumoto, guests will enjoy more than 40 different premium sakes, meet the teams from the respective sake breweries and learn about the Japanese drink’s rich history. This event is the fifth Foodism x Hedonism Wines & House of Sake tasting and is the ultimate way to celebrate World Sake Day, whether you’re a connoisseur or eager to dip your toe into the world of sake.

Tuesday 1st October – Foodism x M Restaurants Japanese Tasting Special (12.00 – 16.00)
Enjoy Japanese-fusion food, ice cold sake and two hours of education from top expert, Raul Diaz at the swanky M Restaurants.
Dishes will include juicy Iberico pork expertly paired with kimchi and yuzu, plus fresh sashimi for starter and white chocolate for dessert. Alongside the dishes, guests will try out different styles of sake and learn all about how it’s made and how to enjoy sake at its best.
Price: £80pp with a percentage of the cost of all ticket sales will go to charity.

Wednesday 2nd October – Lunch at Ametsa at the Halkin Hotel in Belgravia (19.00 – 22.00)
Whilst Ametsa might not be diners first port of call for Japanese food and drink, that’s all set to change this Japan Week. Learn everything about sake’s best food pairings, history and culture with the team at Foodism at this much-loved Basque-inspired restaurant at Como The Halkin hotel in Belgravia.
Chefs have created a special 7-course sharing menu with the flavours and traditions of the Basque Country, paired with traditional Spanish techniques, British seasonal ingredients and a unique Japanese fusion. There will be a selection of light tapas-style dishes and heartier sharing plates which could include Galician Rock Octopus with spiced cassavas, Hake in Salsa Verde with clams and Stewed Cornish Saffron & Garlic Monkfish all paired with sake from the House of Suntory.
