The London Wine Fair has joined forces with The Wine Gang – the group of wine writers, critics and tastings hosts – to create a new competition designed to test the wine industry’s best and brightest palates and discover who has the trade’s top nose. There is a £1,000 cash award for the overall winner – who will be announced at The Fair by The Wine Gang themselves – with a number of additional prizes up for grabs including; a pair of tickets to The Wine Gang’s Summer event; a Jeroboam of Rogers and Rufus; a magnum of the rare Artemis Karamolegos’s Pyritis (only eight exist in the U.K.). The winner will also be featured in a dedicated article and interview for the Gang’s website.
The “Extreme Tasting Challenge” will comprise a series of tasting-related questions, devised by The Wine Gang, on selected wines from 10 exhibitors (one per stand), spanning all sections of the show. Visitors – and exhibitors – wishing to participate can collect an Extreme Tasting Challenge card from the entrance lobby; contestants will need to answer specific questions such as identifying an obscure grape variety or a winemaking technique. Cards will be stamped at each of the stands and completed cards must be delivered back to the lobby by the end of the show.
Exhibitors participating include: ABS; Buckingham Schenk; Croatian Fine Wines; Richmond Wine Agencies/Ellis Wines; Frederic Robinson; Malux Hungarian Wine & Spirits; G. Patritti & Co; WoodWinters, C&C Wines and Wine & Spirit Education Trust.
The Wine Gang will be on site throughout the fair and is excited to meet up and exchange ideas with all “taste challengers”. The London Wine Fair 2019 will take place between Monday, 20th and Wednesday, 22nd May. Please register via: www.londonwinefair.com
