Apex City of London and its Lampery restaurant are set to make the public pie-eyed this Monday, 4th March as they join in UK wide celebrations for National Pie Week.
The Lampery restaurant will be kicking off National Pie Week by serving up a free pie service for city workers and passers-by, ensuring a tasty start to the week.
The pie in the sky offer will see 50 of the restaurant’s famous pies up for grabs on a first come first served basis through the week, with demand set to be off the (pie) chart.
The restaurant has a long tradition with the quintessential British dish, taking its name from the Lampery Pye, which was described as a ‘most rare dish’ in the diary of Samuel Pepys, one of the area’s most famous former residents.
Fifty lucky diners are set to enjoy Head Chef Marcello De Stasio’s modern take on the Lampery Pye, with the deconstructed dish consisting of chicken, tarragon and wild mushroom on a bed of puff pastry and pea puree – sure to have been a firm favourite of Samuel Pepys’ if he was around today.
Marcello De Stasio, Head Chef at The Lampery, said: “The Lampery restaurant is all about fine, authentic British cuisine, so what better way to celebrate one of our most famous of dishes than serve up free pies to hungry patrons.
“No matter what way you slice it, National Pie Week is a great way to showcase a dish that is a real British institution, and we’re delighted to offer a piece of the action to fans of the restaurant and those who may not yet have tried The Lampery.”
The first 50 customers who pop into The Lampery, located at 1 Seething Lane, EC3N 4AX from 12:30pm on Monday 4th March will be entitled to a free Lampery pie.
