Atellior completes work on its latest project – the exclusive boutique hotel Ikador, in Opatija, Croatia – a jewel in the Med

Award-winning international architecture and interior design practice, Atellior, has put the finishing touches to its elegant, clean designs for the luxury 5*Ikador boutique hotel on the Croatian Mediterranean. Atellior, run by Una Barac, Executive Director and Ante Maric, Managing Director, has offices in the UK and Croatia and works on projects worldwide.

The designs for the stunning boutique hotel gave Atellior the opportunity to pull on the beauty of its location in Opatija, a popular year-round Middle European riviera resort, for its inspiration.

‘We wanted to evoke the spirit of the golden age of Opatija in a modern context, using timeless materials in contemporary and fresh combinations for this project,’ say Atellior’s Una Barac and Ante Maric. ‘We’ve peppered the design with unexpected elements across the rooms. The endless sea view of Kvarner Bay is visible from every corner of the hotel, so our interior colour schemes were inspired by the accents of sun-gold pouring over sea-blue with highlights of green to represent the Mediterranean pine trees. Luxurious finishes, carefully chosen materials and bespoke furniture give fluidity to the contemporary yet timeless signature of our design.’

The main hotel building has 16 rooms, a club room and a cocktail bar which leads to the beautiful a la carte restaurant with a sea-front terrace. The exquisite, wow-factor lobby gives guests their first impression of the luxe quality throughout the hotel with its chevron travertine stone flooring with brass inlays, combined with Pietra Grey polished stone, Czech artisan Lasvit Neverending Glory lights and a Wittmann Vuelta lounge set; modern interpretations of classical forms.

Mediterranean inspiration for the restaurant and bar

The restaurant overlooks the sea, so has an amazing vista past the hotel pool with its cocktail bar, sun deck and relaxing spa and wellness facilities. It is surrounded by an aromatic, meditative Mediterranean garden which overlooks the beachside promenade.  The restaurant design is inspired by the Mediterranean pergola – a traditional gathering point for family and friends over food and drink. Atellior has interpreted this as a brass pergola ceiling design that has groups of brass pendant lights hanging through to give a subdued ambience. Smoked oak parquet flooring is combined with Pietra Grey polished stone here, whilst smoked oak veneer combines with navy textures and natural cognac leather on seating beneath the brass pergola. The bar area has B burgundy velvet bar chairs, brass details and Breccia Medicea marble stone tables to create richness of finishes and textures in this memorable space.

Subtle elegance and pure luxe in the bedrooms

The bedrooms reflect the elegance of design throughout the hotel with refined, smoked oak wooden flooring framed with the Pietra Grey stone throughout. Hints of moss green are seen in the Poliform Mad velvet chaise longues, whilst guests wake up to sea views surrounded by luxurious grey leather headboards.  The feeling of timeless elegance is seen too in the Presidential Suite living room design with its Ditre Italia Elliot lounge set, Molteni Filigree table and Frei Frau Leya chairs in the dining area. Artelior have used a combination of different marbles, smoked glass, eucalyptus wood and tan leather in this beautifully designed home from home for guests.

There’s also an exclusive Presidential annexe, where Atellior have used a bolder design to reflect its architectural form, but with understated luxury; the ultimate retreat for very special guests. Interior finishes here are inspired by the Barcelona pavilion by Mies van der Rohe with green Alpi Verde Marble to continue the hotel Travertine theme. Light shades of leather and wood are used throughout.

Ultimate relaxation and pure indulgence in the Spa design

Artelior has used layers, textures and opulent tones of velvety deep red, Gold Calacata marble and Black Travertine stone with brass to give the Spa experience its truly indulgent atmosphere.

A functional, but still luxuriously designed, fully equipped conference room is also available.
