Cringletie House looks to the future under new ownership

Cringletie House has announced the sale of the property to Cross Hotels Limited. The sale was completed on 25 February 2019.

A former Baronial castle, Cringletie House is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty near Peebles, just 30 minutes from Edinburgh. The hotel has 12 bedrooms, a luxury suite and a self-catering property in the grounds. The hotel can be booked for exclusive use weddings and events.

Cross Hotels was established in September 2006.  The company owned and operated The Castle Inn at Castle Combe in Wiltshire until January 2017.

Cross Hotels is owned by Bill and Ann Cross. Bill has extensive experience in the hotel industry, having commenced his career in hotel operations in his native New Zealand, before moving to Australia in 1975. His experience includes the management of both individual hotels and groups. In the mid-1980’s, Bill set up a joint venture hotel advisory group with a major commercial real estate company. The advisory group provided specialist hotel property brokerage and consulting services. Whilst primarily focussed on the Asia Pacific region Bill also undertook assignments internationally.

Born in the United Kingdom, Ann Cross also has a background in the hotel business and is a graduate of a leading hotel management school in Australia. She has operational experience in five-star hotels in Australia and previously worked as a hotel market research consultant in the UK.

Since forming Cross Hotels, Bill has undertaken hotel property consulting assignments in the UK, New Zealand and The Netherlands.

Commenting on the company’s acquisition of Cringletie House, Bill said, “We are very excited about operating in Scotland. The setting in the Scottish Borders is incredible and its proximity to Edinburgh makes it an ideal location for a country house hotel.

During their ownership, the van Houdt’s have invested heavily in the property and the result is a warm, welcoming hotel which we will be working to enhance and in due course, extend.

We wish Jacob and Johanna van Houdt much happiness in their well-deserved retirement and look forward to working with the team at Cringletie.”
