How about a holiday?
Yes, venturing abroad is a sure-fire way to bring a little much-needed sparkle back into your heart, especially if the winter chills are getting you down. Let’s explore the top winter destinations to explore in style, as well any essential items you’ll want to pack.
Seeking the winter sun
Dubai
Seeking the sun, but not necessarily the sand? You can’t go wrong with a trip to the stunning city of Dubai; Love Island 2018 winners Dani and Jack have already enjoyed the luxurious city for themselves this year! With average temperatures in November between 31°C and 21°C, the city won’t let you down for seeking that summery feeling, and there’s so much to do here beyond heading to the beach. Take part in the ultimate shopping experience at Dubai Mall, the biggest shopping mall in the world by area. Or, book in early to take a trip up the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.
Essential item
You’ll need a cover-up options when heading to Dubai. The Telegraph advises that the shopping malls can actually get a little chilly with their powerful air conditioning, so you will want something to cover up with when you head inside, even if it’s sweltering outside.
Barbados
Of course, some of us just want that traditional beach holiday — but it still needs to stand out. A tropical paradise that is the go-to spot for the likes of Rihanna and Pixie Lott, Barbados is beach holiday royalty. This island has a tropical climate throughout the year, so you can spend your winter months lounging on its pristine beaches and soaking in its crystalline seas.
Relax on the beach as long as you want and need; you’ll only need to venture away every so often for food, and Barbados certainly has you covered on that front. The island is renowned for its amazing cuisine, particularly its super-fresh seafood selection. Notable Barbadian food orders include flying fish, fish cakes, and macaroni pie.
Essential item
Remember to take some aloe gel with you; it’s a great way to treat sunburn, as well as soothing your skin after a day in the sun even if it’s not burnt. Also, be aware that it is illegal for non-military to wear camouflage or army gear in public in Barbados. So no camo-prints!
For spectacular winter snow
Amsterdam
When it snows in the capital city of the Netherlands, it turns into a beautiful winter scene befitting any painting. If you’re lucky, the temperature will drop far enough for the canals to freeze over into a spectacular ice-rink too!
Amsterdam has been a hot pick with celebrities and royals alike recently, with Meghan and Prince Harry having taken to the city at the end of last year.
Essential item
Whether you’re strolling through its markets or taking your time at a museum, you’ll be doing a lot of walking in Amsterdam. A good, comfy leather ankle boot will help you to keep up the pace and keep your toes snug and warm.
Bruges
With the entire city being made a World Heritage site by UNESCO, you’ll certainly have travel-bragging points among your friends with a trip to Bruges. If you want to sound truthful to your friends when you tell them your reasons for visiting Bruges: Choco-Story Museum. This museum will guide you through the history of Belgian chocolate, as well as showing you the process of how chocolate is made. Plus, the museum houses incredible statues made from chocolate! Don’t eat them though — the end of the tour allows for chocolate tasting without destroying works of art.
Essential item
You’ll need a portable charger for sure. Bruges is a city of sights, and you’ll be snapping plenty of photos as your wander through its gorgeous streets. Be sure to keep that camera and phone (sometimes one in the same!) topped up with a handy portable charger.
