The Annick Goutal Story

The story of the Annick Goutal Perfume House is above all the story of a fascinating and visionary woman: passionate about art and music, she is timelessly elegant and has created a universe that reflects her personality: refined, feminine, modern.

Annick Goutal was born in the South of France, and after showing an aptitude in music and winning first prize for piano at the Versailles Conservatory, she decides to move to London. There she is spotted by fashion photgrapher David Bailey, who starts her modelling career. However she realises that she still has a love of art, and decides to return to Paris to open an antique furniture shop. It is only when a friend suggests that they work together on a skincare business that Annick Goutal’s path towards perfume begins. She discovers she has a genuine gift for creating perfumes, and spends four years training as a perfumer. She then opens her first beauty shop in Paris in 1980, however it is in 1981, with the creation of the legendary Eau d’Hadrien, that Annick Goutal gains international recognition. Annick Goutal’s legacy has been transmitted to her daughter Camille, who is today’s in-house perfumer.

Annick Goutal wanted each one of her perfumes to tell a story, she transformed her emotions into perfume with the aim to deliver well-being and happiness. Striving for excellence is at the heart of the creative process, using the rarest and most noble essences, almost all of natural origin. The bottles, products and packaging are made exclusively in France by expert craftsmen, with finishing touches often done by hand.
